In the rapidly evolving global industries, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now a crucial force that streamlines tasks and improves efficiency. While this transition has been happening, worries about employment being replaced by AI have been increasing. However, the fear of automation wiping out jobs is “overdone,” according to Infosis founder NR Narayana Murthy.
Mr. Murthy explained his thoughts on AI’s place in the corporate workforce particularly coding in a recent money control interview. He said human mind had no equal in terms of capability and described it as “the most powerful instrument ever invented by God.”
He remembered similar concerns on employment loss when case tools were launched back in 1975. These kinds of technologies were meant to take-over programming thus human beings were rendered jobless but they fell short of expectation so that they could not replace them Mr. Murthy recalls that, “When case tools and program generators were invented they couldn’t handle bigger and more complex problems.”
Finally, Mr. Murthy proposes a shift of perspective from which we see AI as an aid to the intensification or enlargement of labor power for man rather than its substitution.” He envisages a future whereby artificial intelligence will be used as a supplement to human skills rather than replacing them altogether. According to him, “We should be able to tame that
